The infrared behaviour in Nelson’s model of a quantum particle coupled to a massless scalar field

چکیده
We prove that Nelson’s massless scalar field model is infrared divergent in three dimensions. In particular, the Nelson Hamiltonian has no ground state in Fock space and thus it is not unitarily equivalent with the Hamiltonian obtained from Euclidean quantization. In contrast, for dimensions higher than three the Nelson Hamiltonian has a unique ground state in Fock space and the two Hamiltonians are unitarily equivalent. We also show that the Euclidean Hamiltonian has no spectral gap.

Infrared Divergences in dS/CFT
dS/CFT gives a perturbatively gauge invariant definition of particle masses in de Sitter (dS) space. We show, in a toy model in which the graviton is replaced with a minimally coupled massless scalar field, that loop corrections to these masses are infrared (IR) divergent. We argue that this implies anomalous dependence of masses on the cosmological constant, in a true theory of quantum gravity...
متن کاملDivergence of Soft Photon Number and Absence of Ground State for Nelson’s Model
We treat Nelson’s Hamiltonian HN(κ) under the infrared singularity condition [Ar, (3.14)]. HN(κ) describes a system of a quantum particle moving on the 3-dimensional Euclidean space R3 under the influence of an external potential V and interacting with a massless scalar Bose field. Betz et al. showed in [BHLMS, (6.7)] that soft photon number for Nelson’s Hamiltonian with external potentials in ...
متن کاملThe Accelerated Observer and Quantum Effects
An extended monopole detector at constant acceleration coupled to a massless scalar field is allowed to evolve quantum mechanically. It is found that while in the classical, followed by the point particle, limit the usual result (Unruh effect) is recovered, in the point particle (before the classical) limit the detector decouples from the scalar field and therefore the effect disappears. List o...

We study duality of field theories in (d+1) dimensional flat Euclidean space and (d+1) dimensional Euclidean AdS space for both scalar the and vector fields. In the case of the scalar theory, the injective map between conformally coupled massless scalars in two spaces is reviewed. It is shown that for vector fields the injective map exists only in four dimensions. Since Euclidean AdS space is e...
متن کاملRelation Between Einstein And Quantum Field Equations
We show that there exists a choice of scalar field modes, such that the evolution of the quantum field in the zero-mass and large-mass limits is consistent with the Einstein equations for the background geometry. This choice of modes is also consistent with zero production of these scalar particles and thus corresponds to a preferred vacuum state preserved by the evolution. In the zero-mass lim...
